Terms of Use

Last updated September 14, 2026
The short version: Kindred is a free fan resource for discovering stories by trope. Be respectful in comments and votes, don't misuse the site, and understand that trope matches and community input are opinions, not guarantees — and that we link out to other services we don't control.

Agreement to these terms

By using Kindred (kindred-stories.com), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the site. We may update these terms as the site grows; continuing to use Kindred after an update means you accept the revised terms.

What Kindred is

Kindred is a free, independently-run discovery tool that helps readers find books, anime, and manga/manhwa/webtoons matched by shared tropes, refined by community votes. It's a hobby project built to prove out an idea, not a commercial platform, and it doesn't have user accounts — everything on the site works anonymously, browser by browser.

Using the site

You're welcome to browse, search, favorite titles, vote on trope matches, leave comments, and use the feedback form. In doing so, please agree not to:

Because there are no accounts or logins, we can't "ban a user" in the traditional sense. We can, and will, remove comments or votes that violate these terms, and take reasonable technical steps (like rate-limiting or blocking) against abusive traffic.

Community content (comments and votes)

Comments, trope votes, and match votes are visible to every visitor and are not reviewed before they're posted. You're solely responsible for anything you post. We may remove any community content at our discretion — including at your own request, or if it violates these terms — without prior notice.

Trope tags, match scores, and vote counts on Kindred reflect a mix of our own judgment and crowd-sourced community input. They're opinions and aids for discovery, not a definitive or professionally verified classification of any title's content — always check a title's own content warnings or age rating before starting it, especially if sensitive content matters to you.

Third-party content and links

Kindred displays cover art, titles, creator names, and short descriptions of books, anime, and manga/manhwa/webtoons to help you identify and discover them. All such content belongs to its respective publishers, studios, authors, and rights holders; Kindred claims no ownership over it and uses it for identification and discovery purposes. If you're a rights holder and have a concern about how your work is presented, please reach out through the feedback form and we'll address it.

The site links out to third-party retailers, streaming services, and databases (for example, Amazon, Audible, Prime Video, Goodreads, MyAnimeList, Webtoon, and similar). We don't control those sites, aren't responsible for their content, availability, or practices, and linking to them isn't an endorsement. Some outbound links — currently, links to Amazon, Audible, and Prime Video — are affiliate links: Kindred is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and earns a small commission on qualifying purchases and free-trial sign-ups made through those links, at no extra cost to you. See the Privacy Policy for details.

No warranty

Kindred is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don't guarantee that the catalog is complete, that trope tags or descriptions are fully accurate, that the site will be available without interruption, or that it's free of errors. Titles, availability, and outbound links can change without notice.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Kindred and the person who runs it aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site, including anything that happens on a third-party site you reach through an outbound link.

Changes to the site or these terms

Kindred is an evolving hobby project. We may add, change, or remove features, titles, or content at any time. We may also update these Terms of Use as the site grows; the "last updated" date above will reflect the most recent revision.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the site owner resides, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
